Jim Hightower's Quote of the Day

This link is to Jim Hightower's Weblog, which today features an article about Ralph running for President in 2004 and also the overcharges of Kellogg, Brown and Root, subsidiaries of Halliburton, all known as FOG (Friends of George). Today I begin quoting some perhaps unknown details of big corporate business and FOG that have profited greatly from the expanded powers of the USA Patriot Act and the incredible number of policy changes that directly counter the light of democracy within the US of A.

From the book jacket:

"...an American original who burst on the national scene twenty years ago from the unlikely launching pad of Texas agricultural commissioner, an obscure (but powerful) office to which he was elected for two terms. He has since become America's most popular populist, spreading his message of democratic hope via national radio commentaries, columns, his awrd-winning monthly newsletter (The Hightower Lowdown) and barnstorming tours all across America. His previous books include "There's Nothing in the Middle of the Road but Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos" and "If the Gods Had Meant Us to Vote They Would Have given Us Candidates".
This new book is out now and available in most public libraries or available from library-sharing alliances. Thieves in High Places by Jim HIghtower is subtitled: They've Stolen Our
Country and It's Time to Take It Back.

Wal-Mart: How to Play Beat the Devil

"...now the largest corporation on earth, having passed both General Motors and ExxonMobil for the top slot. It'll rake in nearly $250 billion in revenue in 2003, more than the entire GPD of Ireland and Israel combined (one ONE day in 2002 it had $1.4 billion in revenue - more than the GDP of thirty-six nations."
This chapter goes on to cite that Wal-Mart now employes 1.3 million workers, about one out of every 120 US workers, and one of twenty specifically retail US workers. This is more than the number of employees the US army has, even.

Lots to ponder here. Back tomorrow with more.
