Pul-eeeeeeaze! Dorky Email Nicks

Rant of the day: (actually of the last month...) peeple peeple peeple, please think of the image you generate with your onscreen names, nicks and email addresses. Working in a very large national center that processes documents important to the majority of high school students gives one a distinctly informed view of what email addresses are popular for youth ages 15 to 20 or so. Following is a list of particularly popular and waaaaaaay too cute nicknames used in email addresses:

Didja barf yet? These are the ones I can "print" online without the XXX rating coming down on this blog. Is there much doubt as to the age of the owner? Often there are obvious clues, as when the student will actually use their entire real name!!! Hel - loooooooo, spammers luv u! Then there are the ones that were not feeling thoughtful or creative with they applied for their free email address with yahoo or hotmail. Ever see lots of "2003" or "_2002" with addresses? These are often prompted by the host service when someone tries to register their "catchy" name and is told "that name is taken but you may use these similar names". Don't know about you, but I think that some of the "year" monikers will really date them over time. Kinda "stale" even.

It must be a moment of "pause" perhaps when a student must list their email address on documents for return contact. Do you think that a business or professional contact will not notice that the reply is going to "lilcutiehotpantz@". LOL!
