Daily I have my most recent photo from flickr also in the sidebar - look for the link "today". Today's I am especially happy with. A "chaste plant" or as one person put it "a shy plant". Virtual Earth Day March: Artic Wildlife
I am a member of the care2.com sponsored on the vote this week in the US to oppose oil drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge. There is a map of our virtual march below this text. Over 60,000 people have signed on in the US. Phone calls to elected leaders who will vote on this is our last action and will help impact the delivery of our 60,000+ petitions. Here is some information:
- There are some places that should be off-limits to oil drilling and the Arctic Refuge is one of them. The harm to wildlife habitat for polar bear, caribou and millions of migratory birds would be permanent and irreparable. We have a moral responsibility to save wild places like the Arctic Refuge for future generations.
- Drilling in the Refuge won't solve our energy
problems. It is not worth damaging America's greatest wildlife sanctuary for what the U.S. Geological Survey says would far less oil than the U.S. consumes in one year. None of the oil would reach the market for ten years.
- The best ways to reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil is to conserve more, develop more fuel-efficient cars and invest in renewal forms of energy.
