Blogs Direct Iraq and Indirect

This one is by a young woman named Salam, reporting frequently from her home in Bagdhad. Quite a good read - "you are there" and then good links:Where is Raed?

The Wacky Iraqi is a humor mag but they are now reporting frequently any war news and links. The Wacky Iraqi

adnan organization blog (a good personal blog with good design, excellent links, anti-war)

Iraq Body Count is a site that attempts to count civilian casualties from a huge variety of sources. Has a javascript web counter available for any web host to use.

From the World News Network, Iraq Daily has "news" from the US POV and pretty photos

Global Security organization has many links and articles collected from around the world about any potentially-dangerous site and commentary about WMD, violent upheaval. This site is from Alexandria, VA and is getting more than 1 million hits per day. Some excellent articles - read "US Friendly Fire".

Disinfopedia is the "encyclopedia of propaganda", a project of the PR Watch organization. Read the Homeland Security Advisory Council history to see the log of public statements and a record of revisions to the statements! Keeps track of rapidly-"changing" information from inside the US! Disinfopedia is a project of PR Watch / Center for Media & Democracy, 520 University Ave., Suite 310, Madison, WI 53703; phone (608) 260–9713; email editor@prwatch.org

Spin of the Day is a link from disinfopedia to a frequently-updated page of PR Watch. Here is a sample article presented (go from site to the link):

"As the first bombs rain down on Baghdad, CorpWatch has learned that thousands of employees of Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney's former company, are working alongside United States troops in Kuwait and Turkey under a package deal worth close to a billion dollars. According to US Army sources, they are building tent cities and providing logistical support for the war in Iraq in addition to other hot spots in the 'war on terrorism."

CorpWatch writes
"While recent news coverage has speculated on the post-war reconstruction gravy train that corporations like Halliburton stand to gain from, this latest information indicates that Halliburton is already profiting from war time contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars." Source: CorpWatch, March 20, 2003,Making a Killing on the War

The PR Watch>Take a look at the Discussion Forum link on this post. It leads to an "a2k-like" posting forum.

Corp Watch is a site with the motto "Holding Corporations Accountable"

BTW, comments are always welcome here in the blog - just click on the "comment" link by the poster name and a text field will appear for you. Cobalt suggests that no personal identification be made, but comments only. Hope to see "you" online!

Blogger from Inside Iran

http://dear_raed.blogspot.com/

Don't know how long this blogger will be able to post, but the link is very worthwhile. He/she has links that are fascinating, maps, TV images from Iraq and little posts that are like family letters that tell folks far away what your day-to-day life is like. Highly recommended.

Dear Raed

Also, look at today's Miami Herald editorial by Leonard Pitts Jr. called "The End of America We Knew":

Vote No War Organization

Vote No War
From the home page of this organization, this statement sums up what I think of the extreme and criminal acts of our present US administration:

The U.S. Congress did not represent me when it voted to authorize George W. Bush to carry out an illegal war against Iraq.
Thousands will die needlessly unless the people stop this war drive. I join with millions of people who believe that the $200 billion planned for war against Iraq should be spent instead to fund jobs, education, housing, health care, child care, assistance to the elderly and to meet people's needs.

This also from the same page:
When Congress Rejects the Will of the People, The People Must Act Themselves!
No one will stop this war but the people.
The U.S. Congress failed to listen to the overwhelming number of people who expressed their opposition to a war on Iraq in a massive outpouring of calls, e-mails and faxes to their elected officials.
We believe that it is unconscionable to send young people in the U.S. armed forces into combat in an illegal war that serves only the interests of Big Oil.
Instead of spending $200 billion of taxpayers' money on another war in the Middle East, the funds should be used to create jobs and finance education, housing, healthcare and other vital human needs.
We join with the millions who want to take action to prevent a senseless war that is likely to lead to the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent people in Iraq. This path of the Bush Administration can only lead to an escalation of violence that endangers people everywhere.
The Congress votes for war. We Vote No War.
