As usual, our local paper has published on Saturday the story that Poindexter will be resigning his post with DARPA in the Dept. of Homeland Security. I say it this way because I have noticed for the last two years that "unpleasant" news items for the Bush administration tend to be put out for the media late on Friday so that it is not available for much media response during the "work week". So to put the story out on late Friday, it cannot make the morning news editions of papers or even the afternoon edition. Instead, it is already "old news" and printed (if that) on a Saturday which has far less readership for news in most newspapers.

So why do I say this is bad news? Well one of the main "characters" left from the Ronald and George Sr. era now hits the trail (officially at least). His less-than-honorable carrier including slimey involvement in TIA (remember the Big Brother plans to intrude extensively on collecting information on ALL citizens?), Iran-Contragate, and all - well it's just an idea whose time has come! (Understatement eh?) The final straw was the ill-conceived and ludicrous, laughable attempt to sell futures shares on the stock market betting on disasters caused by terrorist activities. Truly this reveals the mind of this man trusted by the Bush camp. What does this say about our pseudo-governmental decision-makers?

Greeting such a massive PR failure with glee is not a hallmark of a charitable mind, so perhaps I reveal my distinctive perspective on such issues? Mr. Poindexter, sorry to see you go! (NOT)

Again, my president does not speak for me. And I most certainly resent that he generously includes everyone in his assessment. In addition, is he specifically saying that those who disagree with his opinion are "bigger" sinners? Well, heck, I must be having a hard time walking around with that log sticking out of my eye.

"I am mindful that we're all sinners"

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) said Wednesday he has government lawyers working on a law that would define marriage as a union between a woman and a man, casting aside calls to legalize gay marriages.

"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman and I believe we ought to codify that one way or the other and we have lawyers looking at the best way to do that," the president said a wide-ranging news conference at the White House Rose Garden.

Bush also urged, however, that America remain a "welcoming country" — not polarized on the issue of homosexuality.

"I am mindful that we're all sinners and I caution those who may try to take a speck out of the neighbor's eye when they got a log in their own," the president said. "I think it is important for our society to respect each individual, to welcome those with good hearts."

"On the other hand, that does not mean that someone like me needs to compromise on the issue of marriage," he added.

Bush has long opposed gay marriage but as recently as earlier this month had said that a constitutional ban on gay marriage proposed in the House might not be needed despite a Supreme Court decision that some conservatives think opens the door to legalizing same-sex marriages.
