MoveOn is Leftist? Ads are Illegal?

This is a snip from a CNN story on the opposition of the Republicans to MoveOn ads. First CBS and Fox blocked running the MoveOn contest winner ad from the Super Bowl because it was an "issue" ad. Yet allowed the White House to run ads. Now, with $100 million in the war chest of the committee to re-elect Bush, they want to block any MoveOn ads on any TV stations? Give me a break! This is a blatant attack on Freedom of Speech by those in power in the government. Dang, these ads are mighty dangerous, eh?

ARE MOVEON.ORG ADS ILLEGAL?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Republican National Committee is warning television stations across the country not to run ads from the MoveOn.org Voter Fund that criticize President Bush, charging that the left-leaning political group is paying for them with money raised in violation of the new campaign-finance law.

"As a broadcaster licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, you have a
responsibility to the viewing public, and to your licensing agency, to refrain from complicity in any illegal activity," said the RNC's chief counsel, Jill Holtzman Vogel, in a letter sent to about 250 stations Friday.

"Now that you have been apprised of the law, to prevent further violations of federal law, we urge you to remove these advertisements from your station's broadcast rotation."

Vogel insisted that the RNC's problem with the ads stemmed from their funding, not their
content.

"I write not because of the misleading allegations contained in the advertisement, which will be answered in due time, but because running this advertisement breaks the law," Vogel's letter said.

This will get you over to an article in Tomdispatch from Nicolas Turse on the hare-brained think tank over in our well-funded "public" homeland security department. Yikes, just when you think the tales are too unbelieveable, comes along yet other samples of "money well-spent" (r - i - g - h - t) on our security....

$100 Million Easy Money for Ads Not Cures

Does anyone else feel grossed out upon hearing repeatedly that the "warchest" for the re-election campaign of President Bush is topping $100 million? I keep hearing this figure, tied to the the express intent to spend it on advertising. The word is that such bountiful funding will result in omnipresent ads in multiple venues, all touting the glory of the Bush administration. I keep thinking, oh, ADS, just what "we" need in American. Here's an idea - what if say a milliion here and there were donated to hospitals, to struggling schools, to Veterans needing help, etc. and then a matching million could go towards advertising these awards? Now THAT would make me interested in ADS. Chances of that happening pretty minimal eh? Priorities priorities priorities.
