Is anyone else wondering why the Israeli government, with US administration support, can bomb a QUADRIPLEGIC political leader of Palestine? Anyone notice the lukewarm reaction of the Bushies? Um, does that mean "we" support such action? Apparently! murdered two of Sadaam's sons, triggered a coup in Haiti, kidnapped Arestide, and those last two items just in the last week. Too much news = the media is responsible for what emphasis each discovery receives. Shall we pay attention to the Medicare crisis, or the Presidential Election 2004, or to the weather or what? Someone tell me what is really "important" these days. Here is a quote I picked up from a Michael Kazin article in Dissent - Winter 2004about historian Howard Zinn. Even though Kazin terms the Zinn history flawed and leftist, there is a true statement quoted within his article: "According to Zinn, "99 percent" of Americans share a "commonality" that is profoundly at odds with the interests of their rulers. And knowledge of that awesome fact is "exactly what the governments of the United States, and the wealthy elite allied to them-from the Founding Fathers to now-have tried their best to prevent."Read the article at Dissent Magazine: http://www.dissentmagazine.org/ ... Now take a look at the public television story: "DARREN GERSH, NIGHTLY BUSINESS REPORT CORRESPONDENT: The good news in the trustees report is that Social Security`s financial deficit did not get worse. The bad news is that Medicare is on fiscal life support, projected to exhaust its trust fund in 2019, seven years earlier than projected in the trustees report last year. That is the worst deterioration in the trust fund on record. And this, far more detailed than the Chicago Trib and the NY Times report: "GERSH: Over the next 75 years, the trustees report puts traditional Medicare`s unfunded liability at a staggering $19.6 trillion. Add to that the new drug benefit passed by Congress, which carries an unfunded liability of more than $8 trillion, and you get a total unfunded liability of $27.7 trillion. By contrast, Social Security`s $3.7 trillion unfunded liability seems cheap. In 20 years, Medicare costs are projected to overtake spending on Social Security, and the health care program will eventually dominate the federal budget."Is this yet another example of major public and commercial US media shielding the American public from the actual impact such news carries? ...
