Read and Weep, Fellow Americans

What do the National Geographic, NYTimes and Indy Media.org have in common?

The Matrix of Ignorance is the best description I've yet encountered in the bizarre and scarey world we've devolved from the days of 9/11.

Look to this article in IndyMedia by Gary Leupp to see:

"National Geographic reports that 85% of young Americans (18-24) cannot identify Iraq, Afghanistan or Israel on an unmarked map. 56% cannot find the Indian subcontinent, dangling there so conspicuously into none other than the Indian Ocean. Only 19% can name four countries that acknowledge having nuclear weapons. Fortunately, a whopping 70% can identify the Pacific Ocean, but that's probably just because it's the biggest thing on the planet. These numbers are not just embarrassing but dangerous, because in such a sea of ignorance swim Bush's neocons, buoyed by it, empowered by it to send U.S. troops to their deaths in a war to conquer and occupy a nation that had nothing to do with 9-11. Repeat: nothing to do with 9-11. Repeat: nothing to do with 9-11. Repeat: nothing to do with 9-11. Repeat: nothing to do with 9-11."
So, in a story today, Sunday September 14, 2003, I read this top story in one respected news source, and then this one in the NYTimes by Eric Lichblau

One article is entitled:
"Bush Seeks to Expand Access to Private Data" and the other is:
"America Needs Indymedia because of "The Matrix of Ignorance"

Can there be more urgent signals to all good citizens of the USA that WE are in mortal danger of losing our very integrity, our souls and our freedoms just to ignorance and apathy? What does it take to wake people up from living in Neoconland? I urge you to read these articles today, lest they suddenly and unexplicably disappear as so many warnings have disappeared from our American media resources. Lost, forgotten? I think not. Doomed? Maybe. But some of us will go down with the sinking ship of state all the while declaring the wrongs!

And A Broken Foot, To Boot

BLogging has taken a back seat to lying abed moaning and all sorts of displeasure, so apologies to friends who have sought my updates! Actually, Open Source Politics is coming along nicely and there is such a wealth of information and good critical writing on a variety of politically-charged topics that I use my sick bed time to read, read read!

Now that I am more mobile with the addition of a walker rather than crutches, this accident-prone writer is back to the computer twice a day. An increase of 50% or more from the last two weeks. I am alive to tell all: use your seatbelts and have a shoulder strap and have an airbag to save your life in a 5 mph car accident! A girl tried to zoom across an intersection before I made it through. I was in 1st gear only but 2/3 the way through and my car was totalled. Front end pushed all the way crumpled, with the steering wheel and engine coming thru my dashboard. As the smoke came billowing, I wriggled out to throw myself thru the driver door to the asphalt and so I am lucky to be alive to blog again another day.

So, next car: more metal and bigger, that's for sure! Back later tonight to blog as usual,
cobalt
